Some have always lived in Abergavenny while others moved to the area for business, to raise children, or to retire. Q. What brings us together? A. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do something positive and lasting for our children, our communities and each other. - We are guided & motivated by what we know about each other and by our local knowledge - We believe that skills, expertise and solutions aren't always the best ones if confined to experts and politicians to make things happen on the ground - We know that people lead interesting lives and often have skills and experience which don't get used - We're working together for mutual benefit and not for personal gain Put simply, we are trying to give what we have ~ our time, our skills, our life experience and our local knowledge. We are matching local need with a willingness to get involved and make a difference. We feel committed to going all the way with this campaign because there's no choice. Life is changing and bureaucracy just puts obstacles in the way of people, and that stops us from managing our own affairs. When a community has it's own space we can put in and put out the things that we know will benefit us and those around us. We are confident that ALL local people will feel the benefits that come from very simple and practical interventions that: -don't cost the earth - aren't complicated by red-tape - reach their mark - stop or delay the call made on the public purse CARING COMMUNITIES : ARE A MAJOR PART OF THE SOLUTION Abergavenny, for too long, has been prevented THE SPACE where secular [civil] society can get together to enable and enjoy the benefits of self-help and mutual-aid. Trust. Goodwill. Efficacy. Sustainability. These are life's essential pillars being put to the test. These old fashioned principles are enduring and it is proven they stand the test of time. In November 1936 Winston Churchill said "The era of procrastination, of half measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close. In it's place we are entering a period of consequences..." About the Author [click] |
