| A team of local residents - in collaboration with other residents - seeks to retain and develop a public asset for greater public good, and not for personal gain. The future points to becoming more localised again - which means that micro enterprise will need to play a bigger role in helping us to meet new and emerging priorities. Whether it's skills; training; employment; food & energy security; family support; economic stability or just simple, mutually-beneficial ways to keep independent as we get older, the centre takes a whole-person approach to personal and community wellbeing, and urban regeneration. Our mission is ALL about our actions because we understand that it's only what we DO for ourselves and each other that will ever make the difference. We have offered our skills, local and practical knowledge, now, so that more of us can stay in control of our lives as the population continues to age, and the bite of change starts to squeeze our capacity to manage. - Like a Ripple in a Pond ~ Community Security & Resilience will happen Spontaneously from here - In June 2011 the building was withdrawn from sale at auction and negotiations of a leasehold agreement between ACC and Monmouthshire Council are ongoing. There is a Project Management Team taking this forward via a business plan to support three phases. ACC announcements through the local press have, regrettably, not been possible. This labour of love is a lengthy and time-hungry process - and to a great extent we've been sitting on our hands. *PLEDGES are promises that local people made in 2007 which stands at £15K, and if we progress to a lease with MCC, these Pledges will be called upon as this collective investment will support the start up period, and accelerate our launch. The more pledges that we get, of course, the quicker that we can turn these words into actions that benefit local people. WE ARE LOOKING TO MAINTAIN A £15k TARGET We recognise that times are harder for us all - and, yet, the demand for a community-focussed facility made strong through local networks, will also just continue to grow. Despite attempts to get up and running in "better times" - we inevitably find ourselves setting up a social business in challenging financial times ... the scenario we were planning to avoid. Please, just Pledge whatever you feel you can honour. Thank You. We will make a wider public call through the press once MCC makes the position known. |
